Our smallest folding knife is the No.02, a highly efficient tool despite its small stature. This tiny knife is perfect for everyday tasks like opening letters or cutting papers, making it a convenient tool to have with you at all times. However, it is important to note that this knife is very small, measuring under 2 inches when folded. Therefore, we recommend reviewing the size before making a purchase. Additionally, please be aware that due to its size, the No.02 does not include the Virobloc safety ring.
Opinel has been crafting knives and tools for over 130 years in the French Alps. Following in the footsteps of Joseph Opinel, who worked from his workshop in 1890, we continue to manufacture our products in Chambery, France, a tradition that we are proud to uphold.
The blade of the No.02 is made from Sandvik 12C27 modified stainless steel, known for its anti-corrosive properties thanks to the addition of chrome and its low maintenance requirements. With a carbon content of at least 0.40%, this steel provides an excellent cutting edge that is easily sharpened.
Our commitment to sustainability is evident in the selection of wood for the handle. We meticulously choose beech wood from ecologically managed French woodlands in the Alpine region and Jura mountains, meeting strict standards for social responsibility and environmental impact.
To honor a centuries-old tradition, in 1565 King Charles IX ordered all knife makers to stamp an emblem on their products to guarantee their origin and quality. Joseph Opinel, in 1909, chose the Crowned Hand as his emblem to pay homage to this historic tradition.
By prioritizing efficiency, sustainability, and tradition, our No.02 folding knife is a testament to the dedication and craftsmanship that defines Opinel.
