Dating back to the late 19th century in Japan, the Higo no Kami folding knife has a long history. It is said that a blacksmith added a simple lever to a minimally designed pocket knife to make it easier to open and close the blade, setting it apart from other knives. This modification proved to be successful, leading to the formation of a guild to oversee the knife's manufacture. Only members of the guild were permitted to produce the knife to meet specific standards and to use the trademarked name "Higo no Kami". The name "Higo no Kami" translates to "Lord of Higo" in Japanese, paying tribute to the Lord of the Kyushu area of Japan, where the knife originated.

Today, each Higo no Kami knife is still handmade by the last remaining maker in the guild, Nagao Seisakusho. The blade measures approximately 3" and the handle approximately 4", constructed from Warikomi steel with a brass satin finish. It's important to note that the specifications and appearance of each knife may differ slightly due to its handmade nature. Made by the last remaining manufacturer of this trademarked knife, Nagao Seisakusho.
